While I’m still recovering from San Diego Comic Con, I can’t help but reflect of how much fun I had. One thing I was able to attend was Elijah Wood’s panel at Nerdist’s Conival being held at Petco Park. Elijah Wood was there promoting his new movie Cooties starring Elijah Wood himself, Rainn Wilson, Alison Pil, and Jack McBrayer. In a nutshell, the movie is about a virus spreading through children that has zombie like symptoms. They come to the conclusion that the virus is in fact from the infected chicken nuggets served at the school cafeteria. Please watch the trailer if you haven’t already because it’s just hilarious and something different from your typical zombie-like movie. So please enjoy the recipe for my version of nuggets!
Cooties: Infected Chicken Nuggets
yield: 2, approximately 14 pieces prep time: 35 minutes total time: 1 hour
ingredients:
- 1 boneless and skinless chicken breast, cut into 1 1/2″ pieces
- salt and pepper
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1 egg + 1 tbsp water
- 1 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- vegetable oil
directions:
- Lightly season the chicken breast pieces with salt and pepper. Prepare a three step coating system by placing the flour in a shallow bowl, then the egg wash in another, and the breadcrumbs, thyme, garlic powder, and paprika in separate bowl. First, coat the chicken pieces evenly in the flour. Dust off the excess and then dip them into the egg wash. Coat evenly and then drain lightly. Transfer it to the seasoned breadcrumbs. Coat evenly and shake off the excess. Set the chicken aside and heat a skillet over medium heat with vegetable oil. We need just enough oil to shallow fry the chicken.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully lay the chicken into the oil and turn once the chicken is golden. Drain and cool the chicken on a cooling rack or paper.
