Anomalisa: Cincinnati Chili
A recipe for Cincinnati Chili inspired by the movie, Anomalisa.
Ingredients
- 1 lb - ground beef
- 1 1/2 tbsp - canola oil
- 1/2 - red onion small diced
- 2 - garlic cloves minced
- 1/2 tsp - cinnamon
- 1 tbsp - cocoa powder
- 1 tsp - cumin
- 1 tbsp - chili powder
- 1/2 tsp - cayenne or to taste
- 1 - bay leaf
- 1 tbsp - apple cider vinegar
- 7 oz - tomato sauce
- 3 dashes - Worcestershire
- 2 cups - beef stock or water
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Place a cast iron pot over high heat. Once hot, add the ground beef and cook until brown. Set the beef aside.
- Add the onions and garlic and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add all the spices and mix to combine.
- Add the vinegar, tomato sauce, worcestershire, and beef. Add the stock and let it simmer for 3 hours. Skim off any fat from the surface.
- Remove the bay leaf and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- OPTIONAL: Serve with chopped onions, cheese, or pasta.
