On one occasion, I had left the table to fetch a brose pudding for dessert, and returned to find both of them sound asleep, and Jenny laughing quietly to herself amid the remains of supper.
OUTLANDER, DIANA GABALDON
Continuing on with the Outlander recipes series, the recipe I have for you today is Atholl Brose. It was mentioned in the first book of the series and It was actually from the book that I first heard of brose. I immediately started researching on what this could possibly be. After some research, I found out brose is scots for uncooked oats and is part of a traditional drink, Atholl Brose. The drink is typically a combination of brose, water, honey, and sometimes, cream. A little later on in history, there came a dessert with similar components called cranachan. I will post that recipe a little later on.
