JACK: Hey, cranberry looks great.
REBECCA: I know. Great is not good enough. It has to be perfect. Because my sister’s sweet potato pie is going to be perfect, and I can’t stand to hear my mother’s passive aggressive BS if my sauce is not absolutely perfect.
JACK: Babe, it’s perfect.
THIS IS US, SEASON ONE, EPISODE: PILGRIM RICK
THIS IS US: REBECCA’S CRANBERRY SAUCE
Honestly, where has the time gone? It’s the day before Thanksgiving and the number of things I’ve put off until the last minute is not biting from the behind. As crazy as things can get, I hope everyone has an amazing Thanksgiving surrounded by family and friends. Happy Thanksgiving!
Years past, I’ve done a lot of Thanksgiving recipes inspired by the television show, Friends. Their Thanksgiving episodes has always been a classic and I never go a year without watching the one episode with Brad Pitt. This year, however, I’m so happy that I get to do something from, This Is Us.
The episode starts with Rebecca preparing cranberry sauce with sugar, lemon, wine, spices, and orange. While I have made cranberry sauce before, I’ve never actually made it with wine. I ended up loving the addition and I hope you will as well. It’s a really simple recipe that you can add to your dinner table for any, This Is Us, fans. Please enjoy.
This Is Us: Cranberry Sauce
Ingredients
- 10 oz frozen, unsweetened cranberries 2 1/2 cups
- 7 oz granulated sugar 1 cup
- 4 oz red wine 1/2 cup
- pinch freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- juice of half a large lemon
- zest and juice of one orange
Instructions
- Place a saucepan over medium heat. Add all the ingredients to the saucepan and mix to combine. Bring to a boil then down to a simmer. Simmer for 30 minutes or until the cranberries burst and cook down.
- If you prefer your cranberry sauce more chunky, reserve half a cup of the cranberries and add it in half way through the cooking process (15 minutes).
- Optional, garnish with slices of orange.
