Westworld: Chocolate and Whiskey Cake
One of the hottest shows on television right now happens to also be one of my favorites, Westworld. I am obsessed with this show! If you follow me on instagram, you’ll know that I was able to get myself a ticket to Westworld at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. The experience was incredible and you’ll see that I even included the hat I received from the experience. I know that HBO actually opened up this experience in a few cities across America so make sure not to pass up on the chance if you ever get to go.
TEDDY: Rye whiskey.
BARTENDER: What about it?
TEDDY: Well, it ain’t doing any good sitting in that bottle.
WESTWORLD, SEASON ONE – EPISODE: THE ORIGINAL
Season two of the show premiered last Sunday and to celebrate I wanted to create something easy and memorable. This chocolate and whiskey cake is so delicious and the iconic maze on top really kicks it up a notch. While we didn’t get to see what they eat in the world, we do know they sure drink a lot. The addition of whiskey is fantastic and really adds another great dimension to this rich chocolate cake.
The following recipe is actually from New York Times Cooking. It’s a wonderful recipe I’ve made a few times before. What’s great is that it keeps moist for a few days after (if you don’t finish it by the first day!). As always, use a good quality chocolate and cocoa powder. It really makes a difference in this cake.
Now, as easy as the cake was to make, the maze takes a bit more time and patience. I printed out a 6″x6″ copy of the maze and I cut out all the black lines with a knife. The end result is so striking. If your lines end up a bit blurred, just take a lightly damp paintbrush and clean up the lines. It’s really that easy. I hope you enjoy making and eating this cake as much as I did!
