There is only one more day until the premiere of Game of Thrones and I’m so excited! For today’s recipe, I wanted to do something different that isn’t exactly taken from the books or the show. This recipe is meant more for decoration or a centerpiece for your feast so don’t expect it to taste amazing. I’ll add the rough outline I used for this project specifically but feel free to use any template you want. I imagine the house sigils would look amazing. This project took about 3 hours to make. It was easy putting it together but the letters took up most of the time. Please enjoy.
Game of Thrones Bread Centerpiece
A recipe for a bread centerpiece or decoration from the Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire series.
Ingredients
- 5 1/2 cups / 28oz / 780g - bread flour
- 1/4 cup / 1oz / 30g - milk powder
- 1 1/4 cup / 10.5oz / 300g - water
- 1.7 oz / 50g - granulated sugar
- .2oz / 7.5g - salt
- 1 1/2 / 2.5 oz / 70g - whole eggs
- 5 oz / 150g - shortening or butter softened
- | GLAZE |
- 1 - egg
- 1 - egg yolk
- coloring: chili powder curry powder, cocoa powder
Instructions
- In a stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment, mix together the eggs and softened butter or shortening until combined. Add the sugar and salt and mix to combine.
- Stream in the water. Switch to a dough hook attachment and add the bread flour and milk powder a few spoonfuls at a time. Mix on medium speed until you get a smooth dough, 4-5 minutes.
- Let the dough rest for 15-20 minutes for it to relax. At this point, you can use any template you choose. My piece was 12x12 and the rough templates included fit perfectly. Use a bit of water to help adhere the pieces of dough together.
- To finish your piece, brush with egg wash. To add color, I mixed some of the egg wash with the chili powder, curry powder, or cocoa powder.
- Bake at 300F, for 1 hour. Check every 10 minutes for the first 30 minutes for any bubbles that may have developed. Pierce the bubbles with a thin metal skewer or toothpick. It should be thoroughly dried.
