TONY: What’s this?
WAITER: Pimiento-cheese sandwich, sir.
Frank takes one off the tray, tries it.
TONY: Oof.
Tony spits into a napkin, plops the balled-up napkin on the tray.
GREEN BOOK, SCREENPLAY, PETER FARRELLY
Only just a few more weeks until the big night! I’m continuing this year’s Oscar nominated recipe series with another one from the movie, Green Book. These pimento cheese sandwiches are inspired by a scene in the movie when a waiter walks by Tony and offers him these sandwiches. He tries them and immediately spits it out on a napkin.
It was a quick and funny scene but these sandwiches are so easy to make if you’re thinking of throwing an Oscar party. Please enjoy!
Green Book: Pimento Cheese Sandwiches

- 4 oz jarred pimento peppers drained
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices white bread
- pinch cayenne optional

Instructions
- Mix together the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, pimento peppers, and mayonnaise until well combined. Taste for salt and pepper. Cayenne is optional and can be added at this point.
- Generously spoon the mixture onto one slice of bread and top with another slice. With a serrated knife, trim the crust off. Wrap the sandwiches with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Slice the sandwiches into quarters.
