DRACULA: Look, love droppings, I brought you a bagel with your favorite, scream cheese.
MAVIS: Holy rabies, thanks dad. Johnny, try some scream cheese, it’s awesome.
JOHNNY: Oh, cool, but I’m scream cheese intolerant. So, polite pass.
HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, 2012
I don’t even know if you can even call this a recipe but I was so excited to post this recipe for scream cheese from the movie, Hotel Transylvania. The inspiration for this came from a scene in the first Hotel Transylvania movie between Mavis, Dracula, and Johnny. It’s essentially cream cheese on bagel, the shape it takes when it screams is hilarious and very memorable. Also, I can’t believe Halloween is almost here. Seriously, where have the time gone?!
While this isn’t ideal to eat as is (that’s a lot of cream cheese!) I imagine it would be a perfect to serve cream cheese during a party. One pound of cream cheese is enough to make two scream cheeses but it will vary depending on large you want to make it. Make sure to use an image of the scream cheese from the movie to use as reference. Keep the cream cheese cold as you model it because it’s much easier to work. Please enjoy!
Hotel Transylvania: Scream Cheese
Ingredients
- 1 pound cream cheese room temperature
- 1 bagel sliced in half
Instructions
- in a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the cream cheese until soft, around 3 minutes.
- Place the softened cream cheese on top the bagel slice. With a small offset spatula, shape the mixture into a cone shape. Use an image of the scream cheese to use as a guideline. Once you get the general shape, refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Once the cream cheese is firmer, take a small spoon and hollow out the center of the cone for his mouth. Refrigerate for a few more minutes if it starts to soften.
- With a pairing knife, cut out the teeth on the top and bottom of the mouth. A toothpick will also work. With a toothpick, make two eyeballs on the top and a few lines on the side of his mouth and around the eyes to make it more lifelike.
- Finally, make a few deep cuts on the side of the cream cheese with a toothpick. Make a second scream cheese with the left over cream cheese.
Notes
- Make sure to use an image from the movie to use as reference.
- Chill the cream cheese when it starts to get soft. It will make modeling the cream cheese much easier.
