Stranger Things is easily the most talked about television show this year and when I was brainstorming on what feast I wanted to take on this year I knew I had to do something from this show. The recipes I’ll be posting was either specifically mentioned in the show or I felt it was appropriate for the era.
I purchased the lights from Home Depot for $25 for 100 lights and I think they look perfect. After looking through many photos of the lights Joyce Byers had put up, it was obvious it colors were more pink and purple. If you don’t feel like painting your walls for the alphabet, I used painter test sheets that worked perfectly. That was also purchased from Home Depot.
There was quite a lot of food mentioned in the series and even though many of the items were brand snacks like Pringles and Eggo Waffles, I wanted to incorporate that to the dinner. In one of the episodes, the boys meet up before another one of their excursions and they all share what they have brought to help the team. Dustin dumps out the items in his backpack revealing Nutty Bars, Bazooka, Pez, Smarties, Pringles, Nilla Wafers, apple, banana, and trail mix. Any of these items would be really fun to have around if you’re throwing a Stranger Things party.
Dustin, what did you get? Well, alrighty. So, we’ve got Nutty Bars, Bazooka, Pez, Smarties, Pringles, Nilla Wafers, apple, – banana, and trail mix.
STRANGER THINGS, SEASON ONE
You like that ice cream, huh? Smile looks good on you.
STRANGER THINGS, SEASON ONE
For my first recipe, I have Eggo waffles and strawberry ice cream. Eleven’s Eggo waffles is known to be her favorite food so it wouldn’t be right if it wasn’t somewhere on this menu.
Netflix Original: Stranger Things - Menu
Ingredients
- 2 cups / 16oz / 453g - heavy cream
- 2 cups / 16oz / 453g - whole milk
- ½ cup / 3.5oz / 100g - granulated sugar
- 7 - egg yolks large
- large pinch - salt
- 1 tsp - vanilla extract
- 16 oz - fresh strawberries cleaned and hulled
- Eggo Waffles - as needed
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream, milk, and sugar over medium heat. Set aside your yolks in a mixing bowl.
- While you're heating the cream, mash the strawberries with a fork until you get small pieces of strawberries.
- When the cream mixture starts to steam, carefully stream in the hot cream into the yolks. Mix constantly while incorporating the hot cream to prevent the yolks from cooking. Return the mixture back to the saucepan over medium heat and add the salt. Keep stirring the mixture until it comes to 175F. The mixture should be thick enough to coat the back of your spoon. Add the extract and salt.
- Strain and add the mashed strawberries to the mixture. Cover the mixture with plastic wrap. Cool the mixture down in the refrigerator or in an ice bath.
- When the mixture is cold, churn the ice cream in an ice cream maker. Follow the guidelines of your machine.
- Serve the ice cream with lightly toasted eggo waffles on the side.
