For this final recipe from Alison Hendrix’s Victory Dinner, I have for you, Donnie’s mulled wine and dinner rolls. The mulled wine is something I love to have during the holidays when it’s cold outside but it also goes so well with this dinner. I hope you’ve enjoyed this Orphan Black series and let me know if this is something you would like to see more of. Enjoy!
Orphan Black: Donnie’s Mulled Wine
yield: 4 prep time: 5 minutes total time: 20 minutes
ingredients:
- 1 bottle red wine
- the peel of one whole orange
- 2 oz granulated sugar or more to taste
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 5 pieces of clove
- 2 star anise
- 1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat. Let this come to a simmer for 15 – 20 minutes. Strain and serve with orange peel and a cinnamon stick for garnish.
Dinner Rolls:
yield: 6 rolls prep time: 30 minutes total time: 3 hours
ingredients:
- 4oz 110F water
- 8g active dry yeast
- 2oz melted butter
- 2oz granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 300g all purpose flour
- egg wash
directions:
- Sprinkle yeast into 110F water and let sit for 10 minutes. In a stand mixer, paddle together the eggs, salt, sugar, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and then add the all purpose flour in three additions. Once it forms a ball, take it out of the mixer and knead with your hands. The dough should be smooth and easy to handle after 5 minutes of kneading. Place the dough into the lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Leave it in a warm place to proof for 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 375F and degas the dough and gently punching it in the center. Take the dough out and portion it into 6 equal pieces. You can make it smaller if you want. Roll the dough into balls and place it on a sheet tray, evenly spaced out. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise again for 1 hour. Egg wash your buns before placing them into the oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
