Cinna and Portia seem to have a civilizing effect on Haymitch and Effie. At least they’re addressing each other decently. And they both have nothing but praise for our stylists ‘opening act. While they make small talk, I concentrate on the meal. Mushroom soup, bitter greens with tomatoes the size of peas, rare roast beef sliced as thin as paper, noodles in a green sauce, cheese that melts on your tongue served with sweet blue grapes.
The Hunger Games
The trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two was released a few days ago and I’m beyond excited to see how they’re going to wrap the series up. Jennifer Lawrence looks incredible!!! To celebrate the start of the end, I’ve got mushroom soup inspired by Katniss Everdeen’s meal in The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games: Katniss Everdeen's Mushroom Soup
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion peeled and 1/4" diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1.5 pounds of sliced mixed mushrooms
- 6 sprigs of fresh thyme
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 100 ml heavy cream
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, add your olive oil and butter over medium heat. Once hot, add your minced garlic, thyme, and diced onions. Cook for 5 minutes until translucent.
- Turn the heat on high and all your sliced mixed mushrooms. Cook until soft and golden. Hold a few spoons of mushroom on the side to garnish at the end.
- Add your chicken stock and bring to a simmer for 30 minutes. Transfer your soup to a mixer and blend until smooth. If it seems too thick, thin it out with a bit of chicken stock. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with cooked mushrooms.
