The supper comes in courses. A thick carrot soup,
green salad, lamb chops and mashed potatoes, cheese
and fruit, a chocolate cake. Throughout the meal,
Effie Trinket keeps reminding us to save space
because there’s more to come. But I’m stuffing myself
because I’ve never had food like this, so good and so
much, and because probably the best thing I can do
between now and the Games is put on a few pounds.
The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins
I’m so excited to start this Hunger Games Train Car Dinner series of recipes since the last movie is going to be premiering at the end of this year. It’s still a few months away but ever since I saw their panel at San Diego Comic Con, I couldn’t shake the excitement. There are many very memorable food scenes in the movie and in the book but I’m kicking it off with the meal she had on her way to the Capitol. Katniss and Peeta have never eaten such rich fare that it was difficult for them to keep most of it down. It was described that Peeta was practically green in the face, determined to keep from throwing up. Hopefully you won’t eat yourself sick with this meal but I hope it will be just as good.
Come back tomorrow for the recipes but for now, here’s peak on what’s in store. Enjoy!
