Hey, you like ice cream? We have ice cream. We have a lady that makes cardamom gelato. Shit you not.
The Walking Dead, Season 7, Episode The Other Side
I think we all know it’s going to be an intense season finale of The Walking Dead tonight so it’s only appropriate to have a recipe inspired by the show to cool things down. Gelato is the very last thing I expect to see during an apocalypse but leave it to Neegan to have cardamom gelato. I’ve had cardamom is savory dishes but it works so well in this gelato recipe. I only used two pods in this recipe and it was just the perfect amount.
The Walking Dead: Cardamom Gelato
A recipe for cardamom gelato inspired by the AMC show, The Walking Dead, starring Andrew Lincoln.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup cream
- 5 egg yolks
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 black cardamom pods crushed
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the milk, cream, cardamom, and half the sugar on medium heat until it comes to a simmer. Meanwhile, whisk together the yolks and rest of the sugar until well combined. Once the cream comes to a simmer, temper the hot liquid into the yolks while whisking. Return the mixture back to the saucepan over medium low heat. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and coats the back of the spoon.
- Strain the mixture into a bowl and cover directly with plastic wrap. Place it over an ice bath or refrigerate until cold.
- Churn the mixture in an ice cream churner. Churn the gelato slightly less than you would ice cream. Place the gelato in a plastic container and freeze.
