This recipe is more for fun than it is for anything else. I’m a huge fan of the AMC show, The Walking Dead, and one of the funniest scenes was when Rick (Andrew Lincoln) made the suspicious Aaron (Ross Marquand) try the applesauce from his backpack to see if it was safe or not to give it to his own daughter, Judith. When forced to try it, Aaron said basically, “I hate applesauce. My mom made me eat it all the time!”
If you’re keeping up to date with the show, we now know that Aaron seems like a pretty decent man who comes from a suspiciously decent group of people from Alexandria but is this town too good to be true? We only have two more episodes to go but like all of the other season finale episodes, we already know it’s going to be a suspenseful episode. So, if you like to see how possibly the famous Alexandria applesauce is made, keep on reading!
The Walking Dead: Aaron's Applesauce
A recipe for homemade applesauce inspired by Aaron from The Walking Dead on AMC.
Ingredients
- 5-6 assorted apples peeled and diced
- 3/4 cup water
- 3 slices of fresh lemon peel
- 1 tbsp of lemon juice
- 1/4 brown sugar
- 1/4 sugar or less if your apples are quite sweet
- pinch of cinnamon
Instructions
- In a pot, combine all of your ingredients. Bring it to a boil and then drop the temperature down to medium/low heat. You want the apples to slowly cook at this point. This will take approximately 30 minutes. This all depends on how large you have diced your apples.
- Once the apples are very soft. Let it cool for a few minutes and then you now have a few options to break down the apples. I used a vitamix but those can be hard to come by in a zombie apocalypse. A potato masher would work as well but you'll end up with lumpier product. Let cool and enjoy! This is really fun to serve at your next Walking Dead party!
